Art. 2 – PARTICIPANTS
Potters of any nationality who submit a participation request as indicated in Art. 8 (see Attachment 1) are eligible to participate in the event.
Age limit: 16 years old as of the start date of the competition (those born on or before 08/31/2008 are eligible). For underage participants, it is mandatory for a parent or legal guardian to fill out and sign the release form at the dedicated booth during the event.

Art. 3 – TITLES
Title of World Technical Champion Masters
It will be awarded to the potter who achieves the best result by summing the final results of:
Making the tallest cylinder.
Making the widest bowl.

According to the methods described in Art. 4.

Title of World Technical Champion Women Masters
It will be awarded to the potter who achieves the best result by summing the final results of:
Making the tallest cylinder.
Making the widest bowl.

According to the methods described in Art. 4.

Title of World Aesthetic Champion “Work of Aesthetic Value”
It will be awarded to the potter who creates the artifact judged most deserving by the Jury, according to the methods described in Art. 4.

Special Youth Award
It will be awarded to the potter, male or female, aged 21 or younger as of the start date of the event (those born after 08/31/2002), who achieves the best results in the technical tests or, in the absence of participants in these, in the aesthetic tests.

Art. 4 – METHODS FOR PERFORMING THE TESTS
All technical and aesthetic tests must be performed on the wheels provided by the Organization, while all other equipment (steel wire, spatulas, sticks, sponges, etc.) must be brought by the participants.
It is strictly forbidden for potters to make any mechanical interventions on the wheels. Any interventions, if requested, may only be carried out by members of the Organization.
Participants are allowed to apply any supports on the assigned wheel, which must be removed at the end of the test.

The clay provided by the Organization will be the same type for all competitors (umbrella stand). The clay will be weighed by the Organization, publicly verified, and subsequently assigned to the competitor who will have the freedom to work it further or place it directly on the wheel. No other clay may be used besides the weighed clay, meaning only one weighing may be used.

Tests for the World Technical Champion Masters and Women Masters
Tallest Cylinder:
the test consists of shaping a cylindrical artifact on the wheel in a single piece to the greatest possible height with the amount of clay provided by the Organization. The minimum diameter is set at 16 cm.
Widest Bowl: the test consists of shaping in a single piece the widest possible artifact with the amount of clay provided by the Organization, starting from a base no larger than the diameter of the wheel.
For the two tests described above, the

maximum time is set at 20 (twenty) minutes for the preliminary rounds and 30 (thirty) minutes for the finals.
Each piece must be detached by the competitor from the wheel using the appropriate wire without damaging or breaking the base of the artifact in contact with the wheel, under penalty of nullifying the acquired measurement.

The weight of the clay used for the competition will be drawn shortly before the start of the preliminary rounds and will be 6, 7, or 8 kg.

Tests for the World Aesthetic Champion Masters and Women Masters “Work of Aesthetic Value”
Each participant is assigned 6 (six) kg of clay to be used for all stages of work. The artifacts are left to the free creativity of the competitors and must have maximum dimensions of 40 cm in height and 30 cm in diameter (or vice versa). The working time on the wheel is set at 20 (twenty) minutes. Subsequently, only the competitor is allowed to intervene for any aesthetic enrichments on the artifact: during this phase, no tools other than sticks are allowed; pressure containers and a rotating turntable may be used. For this second phase, the maximum time allowed is 20 (twenty) minutes, starting from the end of the time allocated for wheel work.
The artifacts must be signed and remain the property of Mondial Tornianti Gino Geminiani APS.

Art. 5 – METHODS FOR AWARDING TITLES
World Technical Champion Masters and Women Masters
The top ten potters classified in each category (Masters and Women Masters) will participate in the finals of the World Technical Championship.
The ranking will be drawn up according to the following criteria. For the individual tests, the following will be considered:
a. For the cylinder: only cylinders with a diameter equal to or greater than 16 cm will be admitted to the competition. The diameter measurement will be taken from the base for the entire height of the cylinder. The height will be measured only once, from the wheel to the top of the cylinder.
b. For the bowl: two diameter measurements will be taken. For the competition score, only the lower measurement will be considered.
To award the title, the final result will be determined by summing the millimetric measurements of the “cylinder” and “bowl” artifacts.
In the event of a tie, to award the titles, the competitors will be invited to repeat the two tests in a shorter time determined by the Organization.

World Aesthetic Champion Masters and Women Masters “Work of Aesthetic Value”
Each potter can register for the test. The test will be judged by the Jury based on aesthetic, technical, and artistic parameters.

The Organization consists of members of the Technical Organizing Committee of the event. Special performance with with blindfold wheel potters

Throw in the Dark (performance out of the competition) in collaboration with Cibas Impasti

Saturday, August 31, 2024, 8:00 PM, Piazza Nenni

The out-of-competition event/performance “Me, the Wheel, and the Dark – Throw in the Dark” is organized by Ente Ceramica Faenza and Comune di Faenza in collaboration with Cibas Impasti.

The special event/performance out of competition “Throw in the Dark” is organized by Mondial Tornianti Gino Geminiani and Ente Ceramica Faenza / Municipality of Faenza in collaboration with Cibas Impasti.

The event, at his fifth edition (after the first held in 2014), will pay special attention to the possibility of ceramics to be a means for the development of recreational and educational activities, improving the sensory, artistic and communicative skills of individuals.

“Throw in the Dark” will give the chance to play/experiment with the ability to create an object being blindfolded, using only the imaginative memory – the deepest and most hidden part of our minds where ideas are created. Traveling in the hidden and unacknowledged sides of our mind, that accompanies us in every action of our lives.

Potters will compete in this difficult exercise, taking the proportions of an object without being able to see it, with “measures” taken only by touch, starting from the clay and using only their hands, their own intuition and the ancient instrument of the potter’s wheel.

Participation is free of charge, until reaching maximum number of participants (there will be, as in 2014, only one heat). Maximum number of participants is 13: in case, a public draw will be held after the application deadline.
It is possible to indicate your interest to take part in this special event on the application form
